why we
need you

AFOI has been partnering with James River Transportation to provide low-cost transportation to VA State Prisons for in-person visitation. However, these efforts take a village to maintain.  Families are provided refreshments on the bus and a full lunch upon return from their visit.  This is only possible through the generous donations we receive.  Additionally, often times children are riding our buses to facilities many hours away.  As with any child, that process can be difficult. We would appreciate the opportunity to provide them with activities to do while on the buses so they are occupied and comfortable as they travel.

WHY WE
NEED YOU

Because AFOI's services are broad and varied, we are consistently in need of your support.  We utilize volunteers on a regular basis and could not do all the things we do without you.  From offering meals to our riders to offering support in the office, we have ways for you to get involved.

Additionally, we hold an annual fundraising event that truly takes a village to pull off.  We need  silent auction items, help in setting up, assistance in spreading the word, and any other time and/or talent you may be able and willing to offer.

WHY WE
NEED YOU

The Milk & Cookies Program enrolls approximately 100 elementary school students across 7 schools in the City of Richmond. Each of these students has a caregiver incarcerated in the state of Virginia.  Our VCU MSW students act as facilitators and the students engage in  the MAC curriculum which addresses topics such as grief and loss, emotional regulation, self esteem, among others.  The majority of our students come from low-income families who struggle to provide some of the necessities such as snacks and school supplies.  We rely on your generous donations to fill meet this need.

WHY WE
NEED YOU

The VA Department of Corrections  and the VA Department of Juvenile Justice has requested our partnership and expertise in the area of trauma-informed design to outfit spaces for the families of the incarcerated.  This requires financial support and volunteers.  Outfitting correctional spaces to meet facility and programmatic standards is quite an undertaking and every little bit counts.  We would greatly appreciate any support you can provide.  We have Amazon Wish-Lists we can share with you as well.
